The Pomeranian Husky, or “Pomsky” for short, is one of the more recent additions to the designer dog world. This dog is the result of a cross breeding of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. Pomskies are rapidly gaining popularity among dog lovers across North America and Europe.
A Pomsky puppy is perhaps one of the most dangerous things a dog lover could ever lay eyes upon. This is because they are simply adorable. This relatively new breed tends to be fluffy and cuddly. However, there are many variations as well.
Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians, the parent breeds of the Pomsky, are both Spitz-type dogs. As such, they share a common ancestry. They are similar in appearance and temperament, which are traits they have passed on to the Pomsky.
Pomeranians today are considered as lapdogs by most dog owners. However, their ancestors were larger working dogs that were first seen in Arctic regions across the world.
The Pomsky first appeared on the scene in America and Canada. Both of these countries now have established their own breed clubs.
Despite their popularity, Pomskies are currently not recognized by official international breed clubs, including the American Kennel Club. In response to this, Pomsky breeders formed the Pomsky Club of America. Their goal is to make Pomsky a recognized purebred dog. This endeavor can take many generations to accomplish, however.
Pomskies are great family dogs. They love being with their family and want to be part of everything that they do. This includes playing games with the kids. However, due to their nature.
Pomskies are known to be social dogs and usually get along with other dogs. If they grow up with the family cat, they will generally get along with one another as well. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility that they won’t delight in chasing off their neighbor’s cat. Due to their fairly strong prey drive, owners must be extra vigilant when their Pomskies are around smaller animals or pets.
Pomskies inherit the intelligence of both of their parent breeds. In fact, the Pomeranian is among the highest ranked breed in terms of intelligence. The Siberian is quite smart as well. As with most designer breeds, some Pomskies are smarter than others.
Dog owners won’t be able to relax on the couch after work. Pomskies are active dogs that love to play. Dog owners have to make sure that their dogs get plenty of exercise.
Activities such as daily walks, trips to the park, and playtime are what the Pomskies expect attention from their owners every day.
Pomskies’ coat is soft, fluffy, and prone to a fair amount of shedding. The colors of their wonderful coat are generally similar to those of their Husky mother. Their coat needs consistent brushing starting at an early age. For dog owners, taking their dogs to professional groomers every now and then is highly recommended for their “professional touch.”
